About Nelson
Twenty years making video. Now I teach it.
For 20 years I've produced video for organizations like Grain Farmers of Ontario, Syngenta, OMAFRA, Ontario's mutual insurers, Activa and Farm & Food Care Ontario.
I've also taught more than 100 non-profit teams to make their own video in-house, most of them with no technical background, and taught video production to more than 100 college students. Teaching people who never signed up to be video producers is the part of the work I'm best at.
Over the last few years I've watched the same thing happen again and again. Production budgets shrank. Video didn't go away. It landed on the desk of a marketer who never signed up to be a video producer.
Those people are good at their jobs. They don't need to be replaced by an agency. They need someone senior in their corner. Someone to plan with, to check the footage, and to say "here's the fix" before the video goes out.
That's the job I do now. Your team makes the video. I help them make it professional.
What I believe · 01
Real people beat polished fakes.
The farmer, the adjuster, the homeowner. People forgive rough edges. They don't forgive fake.
What I believe · 02
Plan the edit before the shoot.
Most bad footage was decided before anyone pressed record.
What I believe · 03
Your team should need me less every month.
If I'm giving the same notes in month six, I'm not doing my job.
